Hapgood memorials in Lymington

There are a number of Hapgood memorials in Lymington. They are the result of the various Hapgood families who lived in Lymington from 1790 to 1950.

Burials at St Thomas' Church

There are at least eleven Hapgood graves in the churchyard of St Thomas', the parish church of Lymington (grid reference SZ 322955). The sketch map below left shows the locations of these graves (as noted by the author during various visits in the early 1980s). The green lines indicate paths through the churchyard whilst thin black lines indicate the boundaries of the churchyard. The red dots indicate Hapgood graves while the blue numbers are references to the table below right:

3Robert Mist and Elizabeth Hapgood
4William(?) and Martha Hapgood (1815-1836) and Emily Harriet Hapgood (1834-1836)
5Edward Hapgood.
6George and Sarah Hapgood
7Elizabeth and Albert Hapgood(?)
8Samuel (d 1865), Mary Ann (1878) and Caroline (1863) Hapgood, children of James and Ann
9Robert and Martha Hapgood together with Caroline Hapgood
10Henry and Leah Hapgood and their children John Sabine and Annie
11Arthur and Ellen Hapgood and their infant daughter Florence Maud.

Graves 1 to 4 and 6, 7, 9 and 10 were located during a visit on 2 November 1980, while grave 11 was located on a later visit on 15 June 1981.

Burial in the Civil Cemetary

There is at least one Hapgood grave in the Lymington Civil Cemetary(grid reference SZ 313954). The sketch map on the left below shows its location (as noted by the author during a visit on 2 November 1980). The green lines indicate paths through the cemetary. The red dot indicates the Hapgood grave while the blue number is a reference to the table below right:
